Forms Based Authentication Update

by Zac Smith 5-Sep-07, 1 Comment
I haven't been able to find a lot of time for blog posts recently and this has been for a very good reason.
For the last couple months the CKS:Internet Extranet Edition (IEE) team that I am a part of has been working hard on making the 'definitive' FBA feature set for WSS/MOSS.
FBA is definately something in high demand so it's been great to be part of this team. We are all aware that a lot of people have been waiting for this feature for quite some time. The good news is that we are nearly ready to release the first version to testing. A concentrated development push in the last few weeks has put us in pretty good stead to get this thing out the door soon.
As we are using CodePlex for all our source control, each code change set can be downloaded (see below). You can even subscribe to updates on the source control page via RSS. The source control page can be accessed from http://www.codeplex.com/CKS/SourceControl/ListDownloadableCommits.aspx.

If you are wondering what features are going to be included here is a brief list of the likely features:
  • User Administration (view, add, edit, delete users)
  • Membership request web part
  • Retrieve password web part
  • Change password web part
  • Login web part
  • Rich client authentication support
  • Bulk User Import

There has even been talk of integrating Windows Live authentication into it.

Kudos: I'd be happy to test this and even happier if it helps me get FBA working without monkeying around in web.config. Heads up: For some reason though, your RSS feed via SharePointfeeds is pointing to http://blogs.provoke.co.nz/Zac/Lists/Posts/ViewPost.aspx?ID=22 which redirects to http://blogs.provoke.co.nz/Zac/Zac/archive/2007/09/06/forms-based-authentication-update.aspx which resolves a 404.
